Finding the latest cheats and reconnecting a wireless controller

The original player gains a Check controller action, recovery from the retained emulator’s sparse-index input bug, clearer cheat access in fullscreen, and HTML cache revalidation. Java build 0.16 remains unchanged.

The previous cheat panel was present on the live site, but the player HTML could remain cached for ten minutes. This update changes player HTML to revalidate and versions its entry scripts, so a normal future reload can obtain current controls without clearing browser saves. A direct Cheats and time controls link also makes the panel easier to find.

The new Check controller action reads the current browser controller list. Wake a wireless controller, focus the page and press a controller button; if it is not detected, choose Check controller again. A web page can refresh browser-visible input, but it cannot pair Bluetooth hardware or turn a controller on.

The retained EmulatorJS 4.2.3 code can confuse a controller’s browser index with its position in a compact cached array. If a controller returns at index one or three, the original callbacks can throw and stop future input polling. A scoped application adapter now resolves the actual index, repairs the polling loop, releases stale game inputs and preserves controller mappings and player assignments. The original vendor files and cartridge remain unchanged.

Cheats remain the same four optional settings, starting off. Secret of Mana retains RT fast-forward and LT rewind. Controller recovery releases those held actions and waits for neutral input before rearming. Fullscreen cheat controls move the existing panel rather than cloning it, preserving checkbox values and event listeners.

What changed

  • Added the shared Check controller widget with connection status, automatic connection/focus recovery and a manual browser rescan.
  • Handled sparse controller indices, same-index replacement devices, controllers already present during initialization and a previously stopped native input loop. Recovery clears stuck gameplay inputs without invoking game reset or save/load hotkeys.
  • Preserved four-player assignments, controller profiles and existing keyboard controls. Custom game players use their own input bridges; this adapter does not restart Sol-Feace’s intentionally disabled native gamepad handler.
  • Added HTML-only cache revalidation and new script version tokens. ROM, core, audio and other large-file caching is unchanged; browser saves are not deleted.
  • Added a cheat shortcut and a Show cheats action for native container fullscreen, keeping the original control elements and restoring the normal side panel on exit.

What we verified

  • 62 shared recovery checks execute the actual retained GamepadHandler, native EJS callbacks and GameManager bridge in Node VM. They reproduce the old dead input loop and cover sparse reconnects, pre-existing stuck inputs, four-player assignments, neutral rearming, polling uniqueness and stored-profile preservation.
  • 61 minimal DOM checks cover the actual fullscreen helper, existing panel/checkbox/listener identity, close/exit restoration and keyboard/pointer isolation from native game controls. These fixtures are not a physical fullscreen browser test.
  • The existing 77 cheat-adapter checks still pass, including source code and native HP/MP evidence bindings. No stored ROM or vendor emulator/core file was changed.
  • Source and integration checks keep game reset, save-state loading and storage clearing out of controller recovery. The native Java version remains 0.16.0, and the seven previously published journal records and article bytes are retained.

What remains unfinished

  • The native Java rebuild is unfinished; this is an original-player and hosting update, not a new native build. Its campaign, combat, audio and full original player handoff still need work.
  • Automated browser control remains unavailable in this chat. Actual wireless hardware, the user’s specific controller and browser layout/fullscreen behavior have not been tested. The reconnect failure and fix were verified against the real library code in controlled VM fixtures.
  • Browser gamepad access can require a focused controller-button press after wake. The check action cannot pair or power Bluetooth devices. Some players intentionally remain paused after losing a controller; resume when ready.
  • Existing HP/MP runtime evidence remains separate from a complete campaign or actual enemy-kill and spell-growth playthrough. Cheats can still affect later in-game saves.
