Wonder Boy in Monster World: player layout correction
A focused player viewport correction preserves the complete original image and HUD at the tested widths.
The 0.1.1 public payload passed body checks. A subsequent narrow player-layout check found that the game viewport could clip the right side of the original image, while fullscreen displayed it correctly. The defect was caught before the catalog and discovery links were added.
This update changes the player stylesheet. It preserves the original game, emulator/runtime, save behavior, recovered media and original 0.1.1 release post.
What changed
- Corrected CSS sizing of the original-game viewport so the complete image, including the right-side HUD, fits the tested player layouts.
- Kept the original 0.1.1 release post and added a separate dated layout correction. Player logic, save formats, storage keys, cheats, emulator/runtime files, cartridge bytes and recovered media are unchanged.
Verification
- The exact successor stylesheet passed actual browser layout checks. Its CSS hash is bound to the layout gate.
- Every non-CSS player, emulator/runtime and ROM file matches the retained 0.1.1 release. The original dated release post is byte-for-byte unchanged.
- The original 0.1.1 functional/save/browser evidence is retained with its original source bindings. It has not been relabeled as a fresh 0.1.2 campaign or functional run. Fresh site and release checks are performed separately.
Remaining work and limits
- The 710 decoded graphics banks are preserved tile data. Complete character animation mappings, all palette assignments, later-area compositions and full world maps remain unfinished.
- Music uses verified score intervals from new original-driver recordings. Video-frame boundary precision, fractional tempo variation and FM/PSG phase mean this is not an exact physical-chip cycle claim. Gameplay event names remain command-based.
- The 48-task walkthrough currently uses manual checks. Automatic story-event detection and a complete campaign replay have not been verified.
- No-hitbox, HP and magic behavior are verified by exact-core original-routine fixtures. Every enemy, projectile, boss and scripted-death path has not been played through.
- Fast-forward selections are target ratios. The browser/native scheduler can run above or below the selected ratio, particularly at high speeds. Rewind is sampled and its duration is bounded by a 32 MiB journal.
- Gold buttons change the actual spendable balance and report the total. The original HUD refreshes its digits on a normal pickup or purchase.
- Physical controller operation and the full campaign remain unverified. Assisted native gameplay has verified the first inn save and original reset/Continue; browser and selected-file tests are recorded separately.
