ORIGINAL CARTRIDGE · MONSTER WORLD III

Wonder Boy
in Monster World.

Shion’s adventure, from the supplied Genesis cartridge.

CHOOSE YOUR SAVE SESSION

Pick up your adventure.

Create a file in a folder you choose, or load an existing Wonder Boy save. This choice appears whenever you open the player.

Startup Create begins a new adventure with empty original inn slots. Save as copies your current adventure. Older native-only files remain importable with a warning: missing cartridge data starts empty and the EEPROM controller resets. Create and Save as require a NEW filename. Never replace an existing file in the picker. File access depends on your browser; backup download and import remain available.

Choose Create, Load, or Start without a file.

Start the game to use time controls.

YOUR SAVES

Keep your place.

Browser session

A committed original inn save can update your selected file when write access is already granted. Without a writable file, download an updated backup.

No quick save in this session.

Quick save/load are in the options that appear when you hover or focus the game. Quick saves stay in this browser and this selected session and include the same three components. File sessions pair the gameplay snapshot, all cartridge save data, and the EEPROM controller state. The .wbsave format is separate from a raw cartridge save file. A file is confirmed only after writing, closing, and matching complete readback. Read-only files can still be played.

OPTIONAL CHEATS

Your adventure, your rules.

Add gold instantly:

Gold caps at the game’s 999,999 limit. The button’s reported total is authoritative; the original gold HUD refreshes on its next pickup or spend. This game grows through hearts and equipment rather than experience levels, so there is no quick-level toggle.

All optional cheats are off.

Controls and preservation

Arrows move. X = A (magic/item), S = B (attack), Z = C (jump), Enter = Start. Use Up at doors; B/C advances dialogue. Configure keyboard/controller through Controls. Time holds stop on blur, hidden page and controller disconnect.

This is the original supplied 768 KB Genesis ROM through self-hosted EmulatorJS 4.2.3 / Genesis Plus GX. The filename carried [h1]; the unmodified file and source hashes are retained. Optional cheats patch emulator memory and restore original instructions when off.

Original-save compatibility: the supplied [h1] header selects a parallel-SRAM hack while Genesis Plus GX detects the original serial EEPROM. This player always corrects the one live header byte from $20 to $40 (word E820 → E840), matching the canonical UE reference. The source and mounted BIN bytes remain unchanged. This save fix stays active when every optional cheat is off.

Rewind uses a copied 32 MiB journal of gameplay, cartridge data, and controller state, cleared on load, restart and cheat changes. Fast-forward uses the selected target ratio; device performance and native timer scheduling can run above or below it. Rewind samples recent play every quarter second; requested speeds describe elapsed game time, with sampling and restore latency affecting smoothness.

Save before restarting?

Save to the selected file first, restart without saving, or keep playing. If no writable file is selected, cancel and use Save as or Download backup.
