COSOM GAME PRESERVATION

PRESERVATION & TRANSLATION

The X68000 original, in English.

Your Japanese System DIM exactly matches the input supported by NLeseul’s English fan translation 0.9b (CRC32 684A43EF). BPS source, target and patch CRCs passed before the translated derivative was made. Your original DIMs and ZIPs remain unchanged.

Translation source: commit cc9bc9c60f4966acf672aed66f37476e1b6f6bbf. This is a community beta translation; the author warns about possible translation errors. It changes the main program and event scripts. Opening supplement 1.1.0 translates the remaining Japanese sound-driver banner to “X68000 Sound Driver.” The animated ZOOM splash, title logo and cinematic assets were inspected and contain no Japanese narration to translate. Their art, music and timing are retained. Full campaign translation accuracy has not been independently checked.

Each browser XDF is a separately named derivative with the DIM container’s 256-byte header removed. The Japanese player uses the unchanged Japanese disk payload. The English player verifies the matching 0.9b System payload, then changes only its sound-driver banner in the two disposable System and User working copies. The distributed base images and save/checklist identities remain unchanged. Data disks are shared unchanged payloads. A separate writable User working copy is made from each edition’s System disk; native F1 floppy saving is not claimed as verified.

Assists and guide

Each optional assist begins off. A guarded RAM observer locates the relocated Lagoon program from multiple code signatures and absolute operands. It reversibly disables normal HP subtraction or MP spell/ring subtraction and refills current resources to the actual level maximum. No disks, quest flags, inventory or maximum values are changed by assists. Turning them off restores the original instructions. Falls and story events still apply.

The 53-task manual route uses the translation’s names and actual event-script order, checked against Red88Rex’s X68000 walkthrough. The SNES tablet hunt, Mint quest and Ella fight are not part of this edition’s checklist.

Music preservation

The music and sound player contains 40 music cues, 22 FM effects, 9 PCM effects and 23 individual music samples. Its 40 music slots comprise:38 looping cues captured through two complete loops and two one-shots captured through their endings. The other 24 music table slots are empty. These are native ZSD/YM2151/ADPCM core recordings, not audio copied from another release. Untouched SOUND files, recording and source identities, exact settings and reproducible capture/player source are retained. Original song names and where every cue is used remain unverified.

The same pinned core and supplied BIOS copies used by the collection’s current X68000 players are kept here. Runtime provenance · Corresponding WebX68k source · px68k source · GPL notice.

Snapshot contract

Opening supplement 1.1.0 retains existing browser snapshots, exported backups and checklist storage. A restored older snapshot reproduces its original disk bytes and any already-rendered opening screen; start a fresh session to see the updated boot message. Snapshots validate edition, exact disk-set identity, core identity and individual state/disk checksums. All five working media images and both mounted disk selections are included because core state alone excludes floppy contents. Checklist and assist settings travel with the snapshot. SNES, Japanese X68000, English X68000 and native desktop emulator states are separate formats.

Opening gameplay and focused save/assist tests do not establish a completed campaign or physical controller acceptance. Those verification limits also apply to the Japanese edition.
