Shadowrun: inspect the original animation sequences

Step through the Japanese cartridge’s sprite sequences in their recovered order, with original palettes and alignment points.

The order in the source

The viewer retains 275 appearance indexes, 922 indexed states, 3,486 direction sequences and 12,332 pose references. Repeated entries and aliased states keep their original positions. The sequence lists come from the recovered state and direction tables, rather than the sorted contact-sheet frames.

Each of the 3,486 referenced frame/palette pairs reuses an original PNG from the existing graphics collection. A common alignment point keeps the source descriptor’s placement when a frame’s dimensions change. Index numbers are retained; character names and compass directions are not inferred.

Inspect at your own pace

Manual frame stepping is the default. Optional preview playback uses a clearly labelled speed chosen by the visitor, and stops at the final pose when the source loop flag is clear. The source rate byte is a phase increment, not frames per second. This preview does not reproduce the original game’s script clock, movement or timing.

Verification and limits

Direct read-only source checks compare the animation pointers, headers, direction words, descriptors, palettes and PNG pixels with the preserved Japanese cartridge and the prior graphics release. The check records 2,394,624 decoded RGBA pixel comparisons. Ten deterministic model checks cover sequence coverage, alignment, controls, timers and late image completion; those model checks are separate from browser inspection.

Actual local browser checks passed for the viewer’s desktop and mobile layout, selectors and pose controls, original image loading, preview playback and loop endings, stopping playback when leaving the viewer, and PNG/source-record links. Navigating away and back stopped or reset the preview. No actual document-hidden event was tested; deterministic model checks exercise that visibility handler separately. Browser backend limitation: The IAB browser visibility API changes presentation but document.hidden remains false/visibilityState visible. Actual page navigation/return pause was observed; document-visibility handler behavior is supported by the separate deterministic model tests only. These interface observations are separate from native gameplay, controller hardware and save testing.

This is a media inspection update. Complete runtime graphics, scene layering and the full JavaScript game reconstruction remain unfinished. It does not establish native animation timing, gameplay, a completed campaign or save/reload durability.

The original cartridge, frozen media 1.0.0 archives, prior dated notes, original-player saves and the JavaScript game remain retained. This website packet adds no sprite PNGs or replacement ZIP archive.
