Reconnect a wireless controller and keep playing

A shared Check controller control helps the game find a wireless controller again after sleep or disconnection, with recovery that keeps the current game and saves in place.

When a controller goes to sleep

Wake the controller, reconnect it to your computer if necessary, and press a button. Use Check controller beside the game to ask the page to look again. The status shows whether the browser can see a controller. The page also checks when a controller connects and when you return to the page after switching away.

The check keeps the current game running. It does not clear saved data, replace save files, or reset your button mappings. The control stays available inside the game’s fullscreen view. If a player offers a specific controller choice, select your controller there as well.

Why a connected controller could stop working

We found a problem in the original-game input handler: after reconnection, the browser can give a controller a different numbered slot. The handler could look in the wrong slot and stop checking for input. The new adapter handles that gap, releases buttons left held by the disconnected device, and restores input polling. Players with their own input systems keep those systems and gain the shared connection check.

Each game keeps its existing controls and controller preferences. Secret of Mana’s right-trigger fast forward and left-trigger rewind stay part of its own player. This update adds recovery around the existing games; it does not advance the unfinished native game reconstructions.

Getting the current player page

The hosting change asks the browser to check for a newer player page when you revisit it. Large game files, music and other media keep their existing caching. An older cached page can remain fresh for up to ten minutes. If the controls have not appeared yet, press Ctrl+F5 once, or use the updated Secret of Mana link below.

Rollout

The shared control is rolling out across controller-enabled players. This release covers Secret of Mana’s original player, Shadowrun’s original player, its native playtest, Sol-Feace, The Ninja Warriors, Pinbusters and Wario Land: Shake It!. Castlevania’s controller update will follow in its owner’s separate release.

Keyboard-only viewers and media collections keep their existing controls. The Secret of Mana update also explains its cheat panel, and the Shadowrun update records its unchanged game versions.

What was checked

Automated checks include 62 tests against the retained original-game input handler in a JavaScript test environment, 61 Secret of Mana DOM display checks, 77 Mana assist checks, 59 Sol-Feace checks and 49 Shadowrun release checks. They cover reconnect recovery, stuck-input release, saved preferences, fullscreen move/restore behavior and release integrity.

These checks do not replace trying a real wireless controller. Physical sleep/reconnect, actual browser behavior and visual layout still need verification; browser automation was unavailable for this release. A web page cannot wake or pair a controller itself. The controller must be connected to the computer and exposed by the browser, usually after a button press.
