Shadowrun Japan joins COSOM

The original Japanese release, our JavaScript reconstruction so far, and recovered game music now have a home in the archive.

JavaScript reconstruction · original Japanese-ROM artwork · version 0.13.0

Available in the archive

  • A dedicated player for the complete original Japanese game through SNES emulation.
  • The separate native JavaScript reconstruction, preserved at version 0.13.0 with the recovered morgue, hallway, streets and hotel room.
  • A music player for the audio recovered from this Japanese game project.
  • A development blog that records each published reconstruction update and its remaining work.

What was checked

The native 0.13.0 preservation record reports 373 automated tests passed, with no failures or skipped tests. Those checks concern the reconstructed engine and source fixtures; they do not establish a complete original-game playthrough.

What remains

The native reconstruction is incomplete. Its later rooms, combat, spells and quests, general dialogue rendering and complete audio system still need work. The original-game player runs the Japanese ROM through an emulator; it is separate from that JavaScript rebuild.

The requested free Matchbox guide is an identified enhancement in the recreation. It does not change the ROM used by the original-game player.

The next published update

Each new native release will have its own dated entry here, alongside the playable update. Earlier entries remain as a record of what was available at the time.
