CCOSOM GAME PRESERVATION
Development record / October 25, 2026

A new home
for a long journey.

Chrono Trigger Resurrection begins with preservation of the supplied US SNES cartridge and a playable original edition.

The original adventure

The browser player runs the original cartridge through self-hosted EmulatorJS and Snes9x. The source ZIP and headered SMC are preserved unchanged on L:. Only the 512-byte copier header is omitted from the playable derivative.

A 110-objective, 32-chapter guide sits to the left of the game. Fifty-six mandatory story milestones can check automatically from stable original-game state. Optional quests, smaller tasks and final victory use manual checks. Menus, battles and special scenes are excluded from tracking; waking in Crono’s house does not mark leaving it complete. Manual overrides and checklist import/export are retained separately from game saves.

Hold the right controller trigger for fast forward up to 3× and the left trigger to rewind recent session history. Matching held on-screen buttons are available. The running browser core advanced at about 3× under fast forward and restored an earlier original-game clock under rewind; release returned to normal speed. History is a bounded native ring and does not survive restarting the player. Assigned-controller, release, disconnect and focus behavior passed deterministic input tests; physical trigger hardware has not been operated in this verification.

Quick level gain, infinite battle HP and infinite battle MP are optional and start off. Browser game boot, cheat toggles and snapshot save/load were checked. The running pinned browser core returned next-level XP of 1 for all seven characters, 999 HP for all three battle slots and 99 MP for all three slots after the normal UI toggles. Independent native-core tests additionally confirmed cheat memory reapplication and disabling. A full campaign and actual battle XP reward comparison have not been tested.

Music and sounds from the source

All 83 indexed sequence entries, 62 BRR instruments, eight tables and seven original driver/data blocks were extracted with offsets and hashes. The listening player includes 65 music/jingle entries, 17 ambient cues and one intentional silence. Original driver synthesis produced new listening copies; exact source bytes and local lossless PCM are retained.

Each of 256 effect IDs was requested in both event and battle banks: 512 requests, of which 379 were audible. This is a request audit, with possible duplicates. Contextual mixtures, song-loaded samples and layered event behavior are not exhaustively reconstructed. Music has finite listening caps and fades; precise loop boundaries remain separate work. All 595 browser recordings passed full decoding and checksum checks.

Recovering the visual archive

The archive contains 1,131 identified source regions and 1,038 validated decompressions. Previews include 365 sprite sheets with 7,819 inferred frames, 525 tile sheets, 65 palettes, 256 dialogue glyphs, 87 colored metatile sets and 214 static BG1/BG2 background compositions representing 486 location records.

Nine location records across five configurations remain unresolved. BG3, objects, dynamic palettes, color math, Mode 7 and animation are incomplete. Some sprite arrangements and weapon/effect colors are research previews. Every original ROM byte is retained, including all 64 raw banks; raw banks are not classified images. All 2,092 PNG files and the extraction hashes passed validation.

Six new illustrations

A separate illustration gallery presents six newly generated painted Chrono Trigger scenes. The supplied character references guide appearance; the final supplied fantasy illustration guides color, light and painted texture. These are labeled new AI-assisted artwork and kept separate from recovered cartridge graphics.

The uploader holds personal images in this browser’s IndexedDB, with original-file preservation and ZIP export. Uploads do not become public automatically. Private upload persistence and gallery navigation were checked in a browser; desktop and narrow-screen layouts were inspected.

What remains

This first release does not claim a native reconstruction, a completed campaign test, every final composited image or every contextual sound combination. The coverage report records the boundaries. Future work can refine scene rendering, palettes, soundtrack loops, sound context and additional reliable walkthrough checks while preserving the original source.
