What you are looking at

These are extracted source assets and research previews. Sprite sheets combine original frame tile records and original body colors. Weapon and effect colors can vary in play; preview colors 13–15 are neutral. Background previews combine original BG1/BG2 map planes, tiles, and location palettes. Objects, overlays, scene changes, and animation remain incomplete. Individual source tile sheets are grayscale.

Provenance, reproduction, and remaining work

The original ZIP and ROM are preserved unchanged. The extraction removes the 512-byte copier header only in memory, checks the headerless ROM’s SHA-256, and validates decompression sizes and source boundaries. The complete manifest records exact source offsets and hashes. Raw ROM-bank downloads also include code and other data; they are source preservation, not classified images.

Frame counts use the next assembly pointer or region boundary, so padding can appear as blank frames. Multi-unit bosses, animated palettes, dynamic effects, Mode 7 scenes, and complete map composition still need comparison against the running game. Static background previews exclude BG3, objects, color math, event changes, scrolling offsets, and animated palettes. Scene-controlled palette row zero is transparent. Nine location records (five unique configurations) have short map streams that remain unresolved; their original bytes are retained. Two unusual sprite definitions contain out-of-range tile references in the inferred frame range. No complete graphics reconstruction is claimed.
