A home for the Java castle, its original media and eight save cards
The unfinished Java/HTML5 reconstruction gets a dedicated COSOM project, exportable website save cards and a source-traceable collection of artwork, audio and movies. These notes bind the actual engine and complete website content hashes.
What changed
- The source engine remains the frozen 0.19 Java build: new Java game logic compiled to HTML5, without an emulator or execution of the original PlayStation program. It includes selected Castle Entrance movement and rooms, bats/zombies, candles and rewards, nine basic attack cores, and Agunea's selected initial flash and expanding outlines. The existing 25 native and 29 HTML5 suites belong to that verified reconstruction baseline.
- Eight named website checkpoint slots now support save, load, delete, individual export/import and complete-card backups. A separate instance of the real compiled Java engine validates imported room geometry and counters before any stored card changes; imports do not automatically change active play. Older v2/v3/v4 checkpoint files normalize through the validator, while earlier browser checkpoint keys are preserved.
- The Save cards dialog is available beside Pause and Restart. It pauses the playtest, supports Escape/Close and leaves play paused for an explicit Resume. Origin/game-path storage survives website release changes; integrity checks, quota/corruption handling and same-origin writer locking protect card data. Export backups support migration between devices, browsers and localhost/HTTPS.
- The artwork library contains 3,135 recovered PNGs, including portraits, sprites, textures, palettes and 1,058 stage layers. Source references accompany each entry. The 982 index-only previews retain unresolved color associations and are labeled as previews rather than completed original-color artwork.
- The music room provides 35 full-track auditions assembled from source-matched introductions and one loop pass, covering all 60 annotated XA music configurations and the complete CDDA track. The 60 original section recordings remain separately preserved. Five discovered SEQ scores are retained as original bytes and metadata, with playback still unrendered.
- The sound library contains 1,042 auditions: all 502 non-music XA configurations plus 540 deduplicated dry waveforms from 1,096 sample references across all 69 disc sound banks. All 737 original event configurations/scripts are inventoried separately. The browser auditions do not replace the original pitch, envelopes, reverb, voice allocation or scripted event synthesis.
- All four original STR movie files are converted for browser playback with audio, retaining 2,363 source frames in total. The H264/AAC MP4s are lossy browser derivatives; original source sectors remain preserved. The site includes media manifests, recovery tools and the unchanged 718,086,262-byte local preservation download.
- Local browser checks exercised the Java playtest, named card save/reload/load, an actual exported-save file imported into another slot, invalid-file rejection without changing active state, and the accessible card dialog. The card suite passed 55 real-engine checks and the release workflow passed 24 checks. These are local preparation checks; public upload and HTTPS verification are separate steps.
- Every future project release must have dated notes matching the actual Java milestone, compiled engine SHA-256 and complete website/media content hash. A pre-upload verifier rejects later changed bytes or stale notes. Earlier local milestones are retained in a separately labeled retrospective, not represented as previously published playable website builds.
Still unfinished
- The complete original campaign, remaining gameplay systems, full player/status/inventory/battle pipeline and original hardware/global update timing remain unfinished. Source-backed behavior is distinguished from authored collision, target/damage, factory/resource, player and Canvas bridges. The Bible orbit retains its explicitly authored fresh-zero stabilization for an uninitialized original register.
- Website cards store only reconstruction room/position/health/statistics/equipment checkpoints. They are not original PS1 memory-card images and do not save enemy, candle, projectile or full campaign state. Loading restarts those volatile systems. Localhost, HTTPS, browser profiles and devices have separate stores; export backups before moving or clearing site data.
- Artwork's 982 index-only previews have unresolved original color associations. Dynamic sprite assembly, palette changes and full original rendering remain incomplete. The media collection is a documented recovery library, not a claim that the whole original game's presentation is rebuilt.
- The five SEQ scores remain unrendered. Dry bank-sample auditions use a documented unity playback rate and do not reproduce original pitched/stereo/ADSR/reverb/script/global-voice sound events. Original SPU sequencing, audio synthesis and in-game music/SFX integration remain unfinished.
- Movie MP4s use lossy H264/AAC and browser playback rather than the original hardware playback path. Complete compositor/GPU pixel behavior, global ordering and timing are not claimed. No CPU, firmware or emulator instructions execute in the Java playtest.
Java milestone 0.19.0. Website cards save reconstruction checkpoints; original PS1 card compatibility is unfinished.
