COSOMGAME PRESERVATION
OCTOBER 26, 2026 / FIRST WEBSITE RELEASE / 0.1.0

Final Fantasy III.
A new place to return.

The supplied U.S. version 1.1 cartridge joins the COSOM preservation archive, under its original U.S. title. The same game was released in Japan as Final Fantasy VI.

The original game, in the browser

The original adventure runs in a self-hosted EmulatorJS/Snes9x player. The original ZIP and headered cartridge remain unchanged; only the 512-byte copier header is omitted from the playable derivative. This is the original game through emulation, not a newly completed native reconstruction.

The player adds speeds from quarter speed through 4×, held fast forward, and rewind through recent session history. Browser backups and game-bound portable snapshots remain separate from other games. A chosen-file session interface offers Create, Load, Save session now and Save as, with download fallback. A completed original Save is detected using this cartridge's save counter, matching slot data and original checksum; file-write success is reported only after close and full readback. Some hosts reopen existing files read-only; the interface labels this and offers Allow updates, Save as with a new filename, or a download copy.

A manual story route sits to the left, with Route and Completed views, search and undo. Its checks do not claim automatic story detection. Keyboard, on-screen input and controller recovery are available; physical controller hardware and a complete campaign remain outside the verification.

Optional assistance, matched to this cartridge

Infinite battle HP, 9,999,999 GP, quick character EXP, quick esper learning and random encounters off all start disabled. Quick EXP runs the original level-up path with 10,000 EXP per living character after victory. Quick esper learning supplies 10 Magic Points per eligible battle; equipped esper and item learning rates still apply. Espers teach spells; they do not gain character levels.

Disabling random encounters affects field and world-map encounter tables. Scripted battles and bosses remain. Instruction/data patches are restored when switched off; earned stats, spells and money can remain in saves. The cheat sheet records exact codes and source notes.

The recovered sound archive

The cartridge's 85 indexed music/ambience entries and 272 sound requests have been captured through its original sound driver. There are 83 audible music/ambience entries and 260 audible sound requests. Original sequence, instrument and driver bytes are preserved with offsets and hashes. Browser listening copies have their own encoded hashes.

Music and sounds have separate players with search, previous/next, random selection, repeat and downloadable sources. These are finite listening copies. Original exact loop boundaries and every contextual sound mixture are not claimed complete, and a request count is not a count of unique effects.

Game graphics and a new painted cast

The graphics archive presents 558 previews from documented cartridge data: original-palette portraits and assembled monster/esper graphics, plus clearly labeled character and other tile sheets. Raw source records, decoded data and manifests remain available. Dynamic scene composition, animation, effects, final palette context and all rendered locations remain further work.

The artwork gallery includes 16 new AI-assisted paintings: all 14 playable characters, Kefka and an esper composition. The supplied first image guided the colorful painterly direction; the remaining supplied references guided recognizable Final Fantasy III characters. These are new images, kept separate from original game graphics. A private local collection lets visitors import their own pictures, retain original bytes and export them; those files never become public automatically.

A preserved source and a clear record

Original archive/cartridge checksums, individual media hashes, runtime identity, extraction coverage and verification limits accompany the release. Private saves, test RAM, local uploads, session handles and credentials stay outside the public payload. This is the first website release on October 26, 2026; no older source date is presented as an earlier launch.
