Modern twin sticks for GoldenEye.
Left stick to move and strafe. Right stick to turn and look. A new optional gamepad profile uses GoldenEye’s own two-controller control style.
Set up the original game
- Connect a standard dual-stick gamepad as Player 1. Start a solo mission with Original N64 mapping / setup selected in the player.
- Press Start to open Bond’s watch. Under Controller Configuration, choose Control Style → 2.2 Galore.
- Under General Options, choose Look up/down: Upright and Aim Control: Hold.
- Press Start to resume. In the website’s controller-layout selector, choose Modern dual sticks · 2.2 Galore, then release both sticks and all buttons.
The website starts with the original mapping on each visit; enable the modern profile explicitly when ready. Recheck the watch’s options after loading an earlier save or state. To return to classic play, select Original N64 mapping here and a 1.x control style in the watch.
Your modern layout
| Gamepad control | Action |
|---|---|
| Left stick | Move forward/back and strafe left/right |
| Right stick | Turn left/right and look up/down; navigate native menus |
| RT / R2 | Fire |
| LT / L2 | Hold to aim |
| X / Square | Reload / use |
| Y / Triangle | Change weapon |
| A / Cross | Confirm |
| B / Circle | Back |
| Menu / Options | Open or close Bond’s watch |
This profile is for solo play: one physical controller supplies two virtual N64 controllers. Adjust look sensitivity, stick deadzone and inverted right-stick look in the new panel. Changing modes, pausing, leaving the page or reconnecting releases the profile’s held inputs; release the sticks and buttons before it resumes.
GoldenEye keeps its native aim behavior. While holding aim, left-stick up/down crouches or changes scope zoom. The wrapper does not replace those original game mechanics.
Optional playback controls
Leave optional playback speed off to use RT/LT for fire and aim. While speed controls are enabled, RT fast-forwards and LT rewinds when rewind is available. After a state load disables rewind, LT keeps its normal aim action. Release held controls when changing modes.
How this fits the preserved original
The native 2.2 Galore mode separates looking and movement across two controller sticks. This is the basis for the new layout, as read from the pinned GoldenEye control source and original option definitions. The browser bridge routes the selected pad through the retained input interface in EmulatorJS 4.2.3; it avoids sending the same physical inputs through both layouts.
Original cartridge bytes, the pinned standard nonthreaded WebGL2 core, runtime configuration and save helper are unchanged. Cartridge-save filenames, browser databases, eight snapshot slots and notebook identities stay the same. The bridge writes no ROM, game RAM or native preferences. Watch choices remain under your control. Recognized legacy renderer snapshots retain their separate compatibility rules.
Verification scope
The local check used one core launch on a fresh isolated origin and ordinary visible controls and keyboard inputs. It observed the two-controller 2.2 Galore diagram, selected Upright and Hold, and exercised the website’s profile and tuning controls. The game was paused normally and the owned test tab was closed after 272.830 seconds. No manual save/load/import/export or physical gamepad test was performed.
Twenty-six synthetic input-source checks passed. One isolated local player check confirmed that 2.2 Galore, Upright look and Hold aim could be selected in the native watch, and that the modern-layout selector, invert checkbox, sensitivity and deadzone controls updated visibly. No physical controller was connected; actual dual-stick movement, looking and trigger response remain unverified.
Source checks use synthetic controller samples. Local interface observations cover only their recorded screens and actions. Neither establishes physical dual-thumbstick play, wireless hardware recovery, native cartridge save/reload durability, a completed campaign or cheat effects.
